Sweet Connections: Swizzels Sweets Helping Hospices Reach the LGBTQ+ Community
At Moya Cole Hospice (previously St Ann’s Hospice), fundraising and community outreach have always been at the heart of their mission. With the support of Swizzels, the hospice has brought smiles to countless faces at events from the Manchester Midnight Walk to the Great Manchester Run, where sweets offered both a reward for fundraisers and a light-hearted way to spark conversation.
One standout example was this year’s Manchester Pride Parade. For the hospice, attending Pride is about much more than celebration—it’s about making sure that everyone, including the LGBTQ+ community, knows hospice care is for them too. Sadly, many in the LGBTQ+ community still feel end-of-life care isn’t accessible. By joining the parade, staff and volunteers aimed to change that perception. Swizzels sweets proved the perfect icebreaker: handed out with smiles, they helped open up conversations and created moments of connection.

As Liz Greenwood from the hospice shared: “Swizzels sweets were donated and went down a treat in the parade… it really helped not only raise a smile but open up chats with people.”
For Moya Cole Hospice, now stepping into a new chapter with a state-of-the-art facility and a name that honours founder Dr Moya Cole, inclusivity remains central. Swizzels sweets have been more than just a tasty giveaway—they’ve been a bridge, helping the hospice promote its services to a diverse audience while spreading joy.
Sweet, simple, and effective—Swizzels has shown that even the smallest treats can play a big role in charity marketing and community engagement.
